It asks in what various ways the ancients related to authoritative texts, how these ways shaped what they understood as biblical, and how the texts influenced their lives. I am the author of a scholarly monograph, The Golden Calf between Bible and Qur’an: Scripture, Polemic, and Exegesis from Late Antiquity to Islam (Oxford University Press, 2020), as well as numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and encyclopedia entries.
